-About Us
Welcome!
It's good to see you here.
We are the "G-D" team.
I'm Andy Deschacht:
I craft pens and my wife Laura presents them by doing our website,
taking photos and making videos.
Design, inspiration and ideas are a shared adventure...
It all started as "Enlightened Wood"...
...That project was the result of putting our hearts and imagination to make one-of-a-kind creations in wood.
It was a period of improvement, research and challenges...
Based on the same concept I created our first writing instruments and then we decided to start with "Garcia- Deschacht",
crafting pens using special wood, metals and other materials for their designs, always prioritizing their writing quality.
High-end & handcrafted, unique & original,
not mass / serial production.
Something special...
That's what we love to do upgrading continuously our working and artistic skills.
In each finished pen we see a functional artwork that beams a lot of important values for us: authenticity, excellence, creativity, dedication, love, enthusiasm, respect and gratitude...
"There is no lighter burden, nor more agreeable, than a pen.
Other pleasures fail us or wound us while they charm, but the pen we take up rejoicing and lay down with satisfaction, for it has the power to advantage not only its lord and master, but many others as well, even though they be far away — sometimes, indeed, though they be not born for thousands of years to come"
— F. Petrarch
Creating our pens involves -principally- the use of a wood and a metal lathe to craft all the parts of the writing instruments.
Except for the pre-made nibs (or nib units) everything is "made in-house" starting from high quality raw materials.
Pen kits and/or automatic machinery don't belong to our work, it wouldn't fit with our concept...
Each pen is made "from a to z", without following a standard model/design.
In this way, each piece is unique, a limited edition by itself, as well as
their tailored boxes and holders.
Metals
Silver & Gold (different types and karats),
Copper & Bronze.
Materials
To make the grip section, body, cap or / and ornaments we employ materials such as :
Gemstones
Ethical & "conflict free", they come from trusted gemstones suppliers
in accordance with the principles of full disclosure and fair trade.
Ebonite
Hard rubber first obtained by vulcanizing natural rubber for prolonged periods.
Acrilyc & Resin
Pen blanks with outstanding strength, stiffness and optical clarity.
Natural Stones
High quality different types of Marbles, Onyx, Granit, Vielsalm Coticule & more...
As well as the gemstones they are ethically sourced
and come from trusted suppliers.
Antler
The deer antlers are a byproduct of processing.
(The animals are not harvested for their antlers)
Wood
We choose different types of wood, special for us because of their source or individual characteristics.
We only use stabilized -mostly by us- pieces.
The purpose of stabilizing wood is to make it more durable and less prone to warping or cracking than untreated wood.
Nib Units
Different options of
Bock, Jowo & Pelikan nibs.
Filling Systems
Piston fillers and twisting filling mechanism integrated in the barrel developed & created "in house", designed to fit "its" writing instrument or international standard converters.
Archaeological Finds
The exceptional materials were found in several historical excavations placed in Roeselare (Belgium).
These are two types of precious wood:
one part goes back to the 14th.-17th. century, another part goes back to the Roman times ("Civitas Menapiorum" 100-300 AD) and belonged to waterwells found on the site.
The fragments of tiles from a tile kiln discovered in the same area also date back to the 100-300 century.

The city decided to share these treasures with some artists, to whom we are grateful to belong thanks to Gijs Fieu (VMZ De Ladder), the Intermunicipal Heritage Service RADAR, Willem Hantson (Archeologist /Heritage Consultant RADAR) and Projectvereniging BIE.

Pens are pretty much our daily companions...
Although most of us are probably not aware of it, they play an important role in our lives...
A pen can be a piece of art, a practical tool, a wealth carried forward through generations, a gift, a luxury accessory, a memory, a collector's item or /and a piece of history.
Whether a letter, a signature or a note, each person's handwriting is unique and different, like our pens...
We invite you now to discover our work, we guarantee you'll find out in our creations more than a pleasant writing experience...
