Custom Pens - "Wood is Good" - KLEWG111FP - "WW1 -First World War-"
About our Pens
Custom pens use a pre-made nib (or nib unit) and everything else is handcrafted. Creating our bespoke pens involves -mainly- the use of a metal and a wood lathe to shape the parts of the writing instruments: Grip section, Body, and Cap. To make these parts we choose materials such as wood, ebonite, metals and acrylics.
About this piece:
Materials: Stabilized historical oak wood*/ Kirinite Pearl blank "Black Mother of Pearl" / Copper
*First World War - On September 1st. 1914 took place the "Battle of Villers-Cotterets" in northern France. Villers-Cotterets is a small town 22 kilometers southwest of Soissons in the direction of Meaux.
This piece of oak was part of a tree that stood in Villers-Cotterets. The tree itself was full of shrapnel due to heavy shelling, but it survived and continued to grow.
The strong discoloration of normal pale oak is due to the metal of the bomb fragments that were inside for a century. They gave the wood a gray / black color.
